Sant Vicenç de Montalt: an innovative project with great results

San Vicente is a small municipality of approximately 5,900 inhabitants but with a great demographic dispersion, because in addition to the three urban centers of this town, we also find 18 urbanizations, some of them considered of high standing.

That is why the City Council of San Vicente de Montalt wanted an efficient system with maximum performance, and thus allow to provide its police forces with technological tools of maximum effectiveness and ability to resolve these incidents, now common in many municipalities.

This network, which combines fiber optics and Wimax, provides the necessary and perfectly stable flows at any point of the municipality’s orography, providing images in real time from any point with megapixel resolution.

Proactivity

In the event of the presence in the municipality of any suspicious vehicle and/or vehicle associated with criminal acts, the police force is alerted in real time, with warnings generated from the system itself. These alerts are made both at the police station and to police vehicles, as well as to mobile devices of the commanders, providing the car’s data, including the license plate number, photograph and place of detection, thus allowing a more precise intervention of the security forces in actions such as robberies, accidents, thefts, acts of vandalism, etc.

Supramunicipality

Thanks to the integration with police communication systems and real-time alerts, the system is able to generate real-time alerts to neighboring towns and the Mossos police force if the vehicle is of supra-municipal interest, thus enabling more effective joint operations.

Research

The images and license plates are registered in the system, strictly following the corresponding security protocols according to current legislation. This database allows the agents to carry out a posteriori investigations and searches by different concepts, facilitating the tasks when solving cases related to uncivic acts and crimes.

Result

The result was surprising, as published in the municipal bulletin of October 2012, because thanks to this system implemented by Alphanet Security Systems, a reduction of 30% in criminal acts and acts of incivility was immediately appreciated, and now, while waiting for the update of official figures, it is unofficially estimated a reduction of 50% in criminal acts since the implementation of this solution.
