Tordera: A comprehensive project to enhance local police capabilities

For more than five years, Alphanet Solutions has been collaborating with the security project of the City Council of Tordera and its Local Police. Thanks to this collaboration, police investigations, both their own and with other security forces, are being facilitated, as well as the investigation of different crimes.

Initial situation

Tordera is a Catalan municipality of almost 20,000 inhabitants, near the coast and about 70 km north of the city of Barcelona, at the gates of the Costa Brava. It is the largest in its region (Maresme), with 84 square kilometers and a population scattered between the urban center and ten urbanizations, which poses a security challenge of surveillance of spaces. According to the local police, some of the most common crimes they have to deal with are illegal marijuana plantations, home occupations and burglaries.

For its part, the Tordera City Council adds another challenge that affects citizen safety in the municipality: the rapid growth of the population. In the last twenty years, the number of inhabitants has increased by more than 60%, from 11,719 in 2004 to 18,795 in 2024, according to official figures.

Solution implemented

Although the collaboration between Alphanet Solutions and the City Council and Local Police of Tordera started more than five years ago, the project was significantly reinforced in 2024, with the installation of new license plate reading points, ambient cameras and CCTV systems, the activation of AlphaDataManager and the installation of a control center and an advanced video management system with joystick.

“We started the project at the points of greatest affluence and also at different accesses to the municipality. Over the years, and in different phases, we are deploying more points with the aim of covering all the entrances to our town. With this, we want to prevent possible criminal acts, detect vehicles in special situations and, most importantly, ensure the safety of the people of Tordera”, says Nàdia Cantero, Councilor for Security of the City Council of Tordera.

Result of the project

“The deployment of cameras that has been done is helping us to reach practically the entire municipality, something that was not feasible with the personal and material resources we have,” says Carlos Alemán, sub-inspector of the Local Police of Tordera, satisfied.

He also comments that it has helped them to manage more than 250 collaborations with other security forces, such as the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police), to investigate more than 70 proceedings for different crimes, thanks to the images from the cameras, and to process some 800 complaints for road infractions. “In addition, thanks to the AlphaDataManager platform, we receive alerts about criminals entering the municipality, whether or not they are identified by us, and this is greatly facilitating police investigations,” adds Alemán.
